Coach Steve Mitchell has a rich background in athletics, both as a player and a coach. He began his career at Cuesta College, where he captained the basketball team, earned First Team All-League honors, and was named Athlete of the Year in 1980. He also excelled in track and field, winning conference championships in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. He continued his athletic career at Cal Poly State University, serving as captain of the football team from 1981 to 1983. Coach Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration from Cal Poly (1985) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Specialized Studies from Ohio University (2009).

His coaching career began as an Undergraduate Assistant Receivers Coach for Cal Poly’s football team (1983-1985). He later served as an Assistant Coach for Foothill College’s Men’s Basketball team (1990-1992) and Women’s Basketball team (1992-1994), overseeing strength and conditioning. From 1997 to 2000, he was an Assistant Coach for Foothill College’s Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams. In the 2024-25 season, Coach Mitchell took over as Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball team, bringing his experience and leadership to the program.
