Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) prohibits sex (gender-based) discrimination and harassment in educational programs and activities at institutions that receive federal financial funding, including for employment, academic, educational, extracurricular and athletic activities.
This Federal Law
Protects all people regardless of their gender or gender identity from sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence, which are forms of discrimination, and
Requires institutions to take necessary steps to prevent sexual assault on their campuses, and to respond promptly and effectively when an assault is reported.

Duties and Responsibilities of Title IX Coordinator
The Title IX Coordinator is informed of all reports of sexual misconduct, and oversees the college's review, investigation, and resolution of those reports to ensure the college's compliance with Title IX.
- Responsible for oversight of the investigation and resolution of all reports of sexual harassment, sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence involving students, staff, and faculty;
- Knowledgeable and trained in College and District policies and procedures and relevant state and federal laws;
- Available to advise any individual, including a complainant, a respondent, or a third party, about the courses of action available at the College, both informally and formally, and in the community;
- Available to provide assistance to any College employee regarding how to respond appropriately to a report of sexual misconduct;
- Responsible for monitoring full compliance with all procedural requirements, record-keeping, and timeframes outlined in this policy; and
- Responsible for overseeing training, prevention, and education efforts, and any reviews of climate and culture.
- Title IX Coordinators for each campus are responsible for tracking and reporting to the District Title IX Coordinator all incidents of sexual misconduct on their respective campus, and will work to ensure that the appropriate designated campus officials are involved in investigating and adjudicating complaints according to the College's applicable policies and procedures. Generally, when the complaint is against an employee or third party, the District Human Resources Office will conduct the investigation. When the complaint is against a student, the College Title IX Coordinator will coordinate the investigation with the appropriate campus student affairs official(s).
