Matt Raivio “Coach Rav” is the 7th Head Coach in the 70 year history of Football at Foothill College and enters his 19th year of coaching overall for the Owls. In 4 years as the helm, with hard work and accountability as the standards of the program, the Owls have appeared in a Bowl game each year winning 3. In 2025 the Owls won the Pepsi Bowl over Sequoias in overtime and in 2025 and appeared in the Gridiron Bowl in 2024 verse Butte. In 2023 he led the Owls to their first undefeated season in school history going 11-0 capturing the NCFA American Conference Division title and the Pac 7 League titles. In his first season, 2022, the Owls posted an 8-3 record and were champions of the Silicon Valley Bowl.

Prior to being named Head Coach Matt served at the defensive coordinator for 10 seasons with his defense leading the state of California in points per game allowed in 2019 while on the way to a Pac 7 Conference title. In 2021 the Defense lead the State in turnovers created on their way to a second straight bowl game appearance. Matt developed talent coaching two Pac-7 Defensive Players of the Year. Previous to Foothill he coached at Northern Arizona University working with Offensive Line and Strength and Conditioning.

Matt was a member of the 2000 and 2001 Owl Football teams earning All-California First Team as a sophomore. A team captain he helped lead the Owls to two Silicon Valley Bowl victories. After Foothill he transferred to Northern Arizona, where he was a two-time 1st Team Big Sky selection at center. As a team captain he helped lead the Lumberjacks to the 2003 Big Sky title. An Academic All-American both years he earned All-American honors on the football field his senior year and was selected to play in the 1aa All-Star Bowl.

After completing his Bachelor of Science degree he went on to play for the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. He then returned to coach at Northern Arizona and received his Masters in Education. Matt also holds a Masters of Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific. Matt is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with time spent as an assistant strength coach at Stanford University.

Matt is married to Tracy Raivio and resides in San Jose with their one son Reid.
